'abiogenesis: the origin of organic life from non-living matter.' This would be the direct meaning of the word, and a fair definition, I would think. The scientific application follows the same line. Billions of years ago the first organic moleculand how are unknown,) giving rise, through evolution, to the countless extant and extinct organisms of our planet. The key words being 'first organic molecules.' Since these were the first, they had to come from something NOT organic. |
