'Punctuated Equilibrium: a theory of evolution, championed by Niles Eldridge and the late Stephen Jay Gould, that counters the traditional gradualist theory. Species remain static (in equilibrium) for millions of years, and 'suddenly' (geologiastic periods of speciation (punctuation) that result in a new organism, which in turn repeats the cycle." That's quite a paraphrase, but hopefully it sticks true to the original idea. Hopefully , Mr. Sodhi, Mr. Kyle, you'lind these def usefull anable. |
