Brian, I highly suggest you read up on the KBS Tuff and its subsequent history concerning KNM-ER 1470. Try M. Lubenow’s book “Bones of Contention” for a good review of the specifics of the situation above. If thermal annealing of heated underground waterdidn’t bring more caution to the dating of the tuff, as well as questioning the initial results, then what would? How about the original samples which gave a “bad date” of 212-230 myr? Or the subsequent antiquity of associated artifacts found along a rather human looking skull, that apparently was too young for the previously “firm date” of 2.6/2.9 myr? |
