If man did not evolve from apes or monkeys where did he come from?

The sequencing of the human genome has led many to believe more strongly in the Evolution of man from simple single celled organisms over billions of years. The reason for such belief is that apparently we share many genes found in lower animals. Such similarity in DNA is know as DNA relatedness.
